Self-esteem is essentially the vital building block in the development of self-image and body-image. Studies have shown that the internalization of standards and perceived societal pressures have an increasingly stronger relationship to body image than awareness, and thus we have a much stronger predictor of disturbance.
This is a term we are all familiar with by the time we reach our teenage years, if not younger.
We are taught that self esteem and pride in one’s self are crucial to happiness.
